Sometimes it’s not all about volume. Sometimes it’s about working with what your momma gave you. Let’s take a look at some stunning hairstyles that work with thinning hair.

The Pixie

If you’re looking to go short, the pixie is the perfect option for you. There are many variations on the pixie but the general attributes consist of short hair that is a bit rough and uneven. It’s best to leave some length on top. This will add volume and leave the side bits a little unruly to bring out the rock goddess within. You can trim around the ears or leave it a bit messy. It’s totally up to you. The best way to go about it is to chat with your hairdresser and come up with the best option that will suit your face.

The Bob

The classic bob has been getting around for years. The straight cut will give the appearance of volume and lift to your hair. Next you have to choose whether to go for a straight fringe or keep it long. If you have a round face you may want to keep the fringe long and flick it to the side. A straight fringe has the tendency to make a round face appear even rounder. Flicking it to the side or brushing it over will create a wave that will give you extra height. Remember that product is your friend.

Choppy Layers

Choppy layers are another way to add volume to your hair. Try starting at the crown and working your way down with varying lengths. The odd lengths sit at different widths and create body. Keep the layers to a minimum and you will see how your hair naturally springs out and sits on the head. You can also try using some product such as hair powder to further enhance the fullness.

Bangs, Bangs, and More Bangs

Bring back the bangs. Bangs are great for people with thin hair as they create a frame for your face and a short fringe with a slight inward curl adds body. Keep the hair mid to shoulder length and you will be in business unless of course you’re going for a bob. You can also add some highlights and lowlights and this will also create the illusion of body and depth.

French Braids

Braids are back in! This is good news for people with thin hair. Braid your hair and transform yourself into a beautiful princess. The asymmetrical French braid will become your best friend. Simply braid your hair but instead of going down the middle start from one side and work your way to the other. Don’t afraid to throw a few braids in there then tie them to the side with clips or a hair ties.

Messy Top Knot

The messy top knot or up do is a no nonsense, no fuss way to add volume to your hair and it looks stunning. It oozes boho charm and you will seem like your too sexy and too busy to spend forever getting ready for the day. Have fun with it and mess it up. Do it up then tie loose hair around the base for a truly boho slacker look. Keep it fun and keep it loose.

The Quiff or Pompadour

Get your hands on some strong hold hair product and create a wave with the fringe. The bigger the better. Height is everything when it come to the pompadour and don’t be afraid to go big. If you have short hair, you’re in luck because it will make your life a lot easier. People with long hair need to be a bit more careful with blending the fringe into the rest of the hair. But it can be achieved with a little patience.

Side Sweep

When in doubt side sweep it out. A side sweep is all about brushing your hair from left to right, or right to left. This can be done with medium to short hair and works wonders when trying to create volume. Try it out and see if what method works best for you.
